Power failure cuts short Top Billing culpable homcide case

The trial of motorist Preshalin Naidoo, who was involved in a car crash in which Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere and his friend Kady-Shay O’Brien were killed, was postponed on Wednesday due to a power failure at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.

State prosecutor, Dinesh Nandkissor, explained to magistrate David Mahango that owing to a power failure, the entire court precinct was operating on back-up power. He said as a result the plugs were not working, which meant recording machines in the court could not be turned on.

Mahango said in the circumstances the court could not proceed and he postponed the matter to 12 December.

Naidoo‚ 24, faces two charges of culpable homicide relating to the three car crash along William Nicol Drive in Fourways‚ Johannesburg, on January 31‚ 2015.
