Nine injured in N3 Tweedie collision

Nine people were injured this morning when the bakkie they were traveling in overturned on the N3 Tweedie off ramp in Howick, Pietermaritzburg.

Shortly before 7am paramedics from ER24 and other services arrived on scene where they found the bakkie lying against a barrier on its roof. The occupants were found around the vehicle.

Eight people were found with minor to moderate injuries and treated on the scene before they were transported to Greys Hospital. One person was found with critical injuries and transported to Northdale Hospital.

The men, believed to be between thirty and forty years old, indicated that they are construction workers and were on their way to a site when the incident occurred. The exact cause of the incident is not yet known, however it is understood that the driver of the vehicle lost control and collided with a barrier on the side of the road before it overturned.

Local authorities attended the scene.
