The Lions revealed on Wednesday that Coetzee will be out for between 6-8 weeks without specifying what kind of injury the player picked up, which will be revealed later on Thursday when coach Johan Ackermann announces his team for the Super Rugby game against the Kings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Ironically Coetzee was being managed the last two matches against the Sharks and the Stormers starting from the bench as the No 15 jersey went to Jaco van der Walt as Coetzee started the first five matches of the season.
Earlier in the week the Lions also revealed that hooker Malcolm Marx (neck) and prop Julian Redelinghuys (wrist) were ruled out for a minimum of two weeks after being injured during the 29-22 win over the Stormers last weekend.
Ackermann is due to announce his side at noon on Thursday.
