Justice Minister Michael Masutha has suspended the Kwa-Zulu-Natal regional court president Eric Nzimande for allegedly accepting payments in return for appointing acting magistrates and sexual harassment.
Reports suggest that Nzimande demanded payments and sexual favours from a female attorney who he appointed as an acting Magistrate.
Nzimande allegedly received regular payments from another attorney in Pongola who was linked to a rhino syndicate. The particular attorney in question is also linked to other ‘payment for favours’ schemes across the province.
The Magistrates Commission is conducting an investigation into the allegations, and Nzimande will remain suspended until the matter is concluded.
