Goals in each half from Joseph Molangoane and Buyani Sali handed Chippa United a 2-0 win over Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership match at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday night.
The home side started positively with their first shot on goal in the sixth minute, but Nkosinathi Mthiyane fired inches over the Pirates crossbar from a free-kick just outside the box.
Chippa continued to press forward and made their pressure tell with the opening goal just before the half-hour mark courtesy of a clinical strike from Joseph Molangoane.
Pirates should have levelled matters in the 38th minute when Ntsikelelo Nyauza played Sifiso Myeni through on goal, but the latter shot wide with the goal at his mercy.
The home side doubled their lead on the hour mark when Molangoane turned provider after playing Buyani Sali into space inside the box and he made no mistake with a well-taken goal.
Pirates dominated proceedings after that as they tried to get back into the game, but their decision-making in the final third and shooting in front of goal was poor.
In the end, they could not find any consolation as Chippa won 2-0.
The win sees Chippa up to sixth place on the table with 42 points while Pirates are in seventh place with 40 points.
