Bloemfontein ‘vampire’ denied bail

A Nigerian man, known as the “vampire”, has been denied bail in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court, police said on Wednesday.

Emmanuel Okiri, 38, appeared in court on Monday following his arrest in downtown Bloemfontein on Saturday evening around 21:00.
Okiri allegedly bites his victims’ ears, noses and mouths during his attacks, leaving them with huge scars, Constable Maselela Langa said.
Langa said Okiri was wanted on four counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The cases were opened in January, July, October and November.
Okiri was expected to appear in court on Monday, November 28, for his formal bail application.
He was arrested during the Lungisa intelligence operation where a tavern was closed and second hand goods for non-compliance were confiscated.

The tavern owner was also arrested for possession of suspected stolen property.
