Two injured, one critical in Bloemfontein car crash

A man was critically injured and another less seriously injured when two cars collided at the N1 and Nelson Mandela Drive intersection in Bloemfontein on Sunday evening, Free State paramedics said.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found two cars in the middle of the intersection, ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

One man was found walking around on the scene while a second man was found trapped inside one of the cars. On inspection, paramedics found that the man inside his car was in a critical condition, while the man walking around on the scene had sustained only minor injuries.

Paramedics freed the man from within the car, treated him for his injuries, and provided him with advanced life support. Once treated, the critically injured patient was transported to Mediclinic Bloemfontein for urgent treatment.

The other man was also treated on the scene and then transported to Pelonomi Hospital for further treatment.

“It is believed that one of the vehicles apparently skipped the traffic light, causing the collision,” Meiring said.
