Three killed in head-on collision in Kroondal

Three people were killed early this morning following a collision on the N4 near Kroondal in the North-West Province. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 00h00 last night to find both the light motor vehicles on the side of the road.

One of the vehicles had burst into flame and was well alight with the driver still trapped inside. A man was found lying outside the second vehicle while a woman was found lying trapped inside. Fire services managed to extinguish the fire that had broken out on the vehicle.

When paramedics assessed the patients, they found that the man that had been trapped inside the burning vehicle had sustained fatal burn injuries. Nothing more could be done for him and he was declared dead. The man lying outside the second vehicle, as well as the woman lying trapped inside, were also assessed by paramedics.

It was found that both patients had already succumbed to their fatal injuries, prior to the arrival of paramedics. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead at the scene.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
