Five accused in Northcliff triple murder due in court

JOHANNESBURG – Five men, accused of kidnapping and murdering three members of a Northcliff family, are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Lechani Mlambo (28), Lucky Ligege (36)‚ Lesley Mokgadi (35), Robert Maluleke (28) and Japan Malatjie (28) face charges of housebreaking with intent to rob, robbery with aggravating circumstances, theft, kidnapping, and murder.

On June 8, six people were arrested in Pimville, Soweto, in connection with the three burnt bodies that were discovered in Centurion, Pretoria.

Police believe that the three family members were victims of a house robbery in Northcliff, Johannesburg, where vehicles and household goods were stolen. Gregory Naidoo (57), Melanie Naidoo (51) and her daughter Rakiel Naidoo (23) disappeared on June 4.

Their burnt bodies were found in an open veld in Centurion.

At the time, police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said investigators awaited DNA results to confirm their identity.

Makhubele said one of the suspects worked for the Naidoo family for 12 years.

The family’s Mercedes-Benz, which was stolen during the robbery, was tracked down and found in Soweto. One person was subsequently arrested, and he then led the police to the rest of the alleged killers, said Makhubele.

Makhubele said that a Toyota Quantum – used as a getaway vehicle – was recovered along with electric appliances stolen during the robbery.
