Eight left injured after bakkie and light motor vehicle collide, Pietermaritzburg

A collision between a bakkie and light motor vehicle on the N3 northbound Highway in Pietermaritzburg has left eight people injured this morning.

ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 07h53 to find both the bakkie, towing a trailer, and the light motor vehicle in the right-hand lane of the highway. Several men that had been traveling on the back of the bakkie were found lying around on the scene.

Paramedics assessed the patients on scene and found that eight had sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. Five other men were found to have escaped injury.

Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and thereafter transported them to Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg and another private hospital for further treatment.

The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
